New studio space
Recently we have moved our design studio to 4 new spaces in the same building on the Keizersgracht 174 in Amsterdam. After some renovation works we have had a grand opening last friday. Many joined us for some drinks.

LiliLite exhibited in Milan
Our LiliLite will be shown during the international Salone del Mobile 2013. It will be part of the exhibition "AROUND THE BOOK" at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum from 4-29 April.

Gispen Today furniture in VPRO's Tegenlicht
The Gispen Today chairs and dining table were featured in an episode of Tegenlicht, a Dutch documentary series. Scientist and philosopher Bas Haring researches the labour market of the future, where instead of earning money, happiness and freedom are becoming the primal goal.

Recognition Good Industrial Design for Gispen Today chair
The chair Thijs Smeets designed for Gispen Today got a recognition as Good Industrial Design at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. An independent jury picked our chair out of 90 other designs.

Studio Smeets Design solo exhibition
Studio Smeets has a solo exhibition at Inside Design, organised by Elle Decoration. Inside Design is a temporary design invasion in Amsterdam. A pop-up design route through IJburg connects temporary units, a stackable camping, mobile dressed windows, and many other locations.
The Studio Smeets exhibition will be from 21 till 23 September at the Ben van Meerendonkstraat 317-6.

Gispen Today in EYE Film Institute Amsterdam

Gispen Today launched in Milan
During the Salone Del Mobile 2012 in Milan the collection Gispen Today designed by Thijs Smeets will be launched.
You are all welcome on 19 April from 17.00 onwards in the lobby of the Nhow Hotel on Via Tortona 35 in Milan.

Helios in-flight flatware exhibited
In March 2012, the collection of in-flight flatware Studio Smeets designed for Helios was exhibited in Hamburg, Germany at the International Travel Catering Trade Show. Helios will produce this line for the business and first class of a major airline.

Studio Smeets wins Toon van Tuijl Design Award
The Raaga collection Studio Smeets designed for Hampi products is the winner of the Toon van Tuijl Design Award 2010.
Jurgen Bey announced this at the Dutch Design Award show. The Toon van Tuijl Award chooses the best Dutch design produced in a development country and meant for the western market.
The other finalists were Piet Hein Eek and Anne-Claire Petit, see the awardshow video of the nominated projects (scroll down).

The effectiveness of design
20% more profit with good design! We already knew this but scientific research from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam confirmed that investing in good design really pays off:
'De financiële prestatie van een nieuw product levert een winst op van bijna 20% als er bij de ontwikkelingsfase veel aandacht wordt besteed aan design. Dit blijkt uit het wetenschappelijk onderzoek ‘Effectiviteit van Design’, geïnitieerd door de Beroepsorganisatie Nederlandse Ontwerpers (BNO) en gefinancierd door Stichting Pictoright en het ministerie van Economische Zaken. Het onderzoek werd uitgevoerd door Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University en de TU Delft. Vierhonderd managers van Nederlandse bedrijven uit de goederenproducerende en de dienstverlenende sectoren namen deel aan het onderzoek.'

The Best Idea of the Netherlands
In August 2010 Thijs Smeets was part of the jury of the television series Het Beste Idee van Nederland (The Best Idea of The Netherlands). Sixty semifinalists presented their product ideas in a short pitch. The jury selected the happy few that went to the finals. The show will be broadcasted from August to November.

Public swinging bench at the Urban Design Fair
The prototype of the swinging bench for the public environment Studio Smeets invented and designed for Falco will be exhibited at the Urban Design Fair in Amsterdam from 13-15 April 2010.

Hampi plates exhibited by Designboom in Seoul
The Raaga collection Studio Smeets designed for Hampi Products was selected by Designboom to be part of their exhibition at the Seoul Design Fair 2010, one of the leading design fairs in the world. The Kitchen Ecology Exhibition curated by Designboom was one of the most attended exhibitions at the fair.
LiliLite exhibited at the WIRED gallery in New York
From 26 November till 27 December 2009 LiliLite will be exhibited in a pop-up gallery in New York City. LiliLite is part of the collection of the coolest products launched last year WIRED Magazine selected for this exhibition.
LiliLite was also featured in the December 2009 issue of WIRED Magazine and the annual gift guide.

Nomination for Horecava Innovation Award
The Studio Smeets designs for Hampi products have been nominated for the Horecava Innovation Award 2010. A jury of experts, journalists and entrepreneurs has selected the Raaga collection in the category Interior & Design.
